From Pam,
Where are all the Chalmer's from Fifeshire. There must be many decendents from
these families. Mine came from Torryburn then North Urquart. As Robert had
three wives there must be many decendents arround. Mine came out to New Zealand
after Robert married the third time but the youngest son George stayed in
Scotland where he took over 5 acres of the family land in Fife. Given to him
from the eldest son of the first marriage to Warburton Baxter. Help please
some-one. ----- Original Message -----

Hi Pam,
- there's a few of us Chalmers Fifers' around. I know you are already
aware of Allison Durry, but I have in my possession about 4 other
Chalmers trees with Fife connections - but none of them interconnected -
either with yours or mine!
It seems Fife was one of the 'popular' Chalmers locales. Some stats
that might be of interest:
Number of Fife Chalmers/Chambers entries on IGI microfiche: 2618
Earliest entry in Fife IGI: Janet Chalmers m. Hector Wilson: 13-Jul-1561
No of Chalmers b. FIF on 1881 census CD's: 529
No of Chalmers living in Fife in 1881: 451
I believe only Aberdeenshire, and Lanarkshire outnumber Fife in
Chalmers'! The Aberdeenshire line goes way back to the 1300's.
The LDS claims almost 30 million names on the 1881 CD's - of which just
over 7300 are Chalmers's - that's 0.024% - so we're not at all what
you'd call common!
Happy (Chalmers) Hunting!
John
