Thanks for the link to Chalmers Coat of arms. My GG GF continues to be a brick wall on the
Chalmers line. His death reference of 1871 lists "Parents Unknown".
William Chalmers born about 1817 in Denny Stirling and died 9 Feb 1871 at Aultdearg,
Bellie, Moray.

1871 Feb 9 Death Reference GROS 126/00 0008 age is 50,[ Born 1820] "parents
unknown" - son George is informant.
POTENTIAL PARENTS
Birth year was 1815-1820.
There was only one Wm born in Denny Sterling-1817 to Wm Chalmer & Mgt Gilchrist, but
this Wm was a weaver and married Eliz Cook he died 1877
I searched GROS for births and deaths of those born in 1811 - 1827, I also searched
Williams found in Ancestry family trees
I researched 20 candidates, and I ruled out all except 4 {these are also dead ends}
Candidates were ruled out by a Death Cert or find in the 1851 or 1861 census
It is possible he did not know his exact date or place of birth, or parents if he was
adopted, or illegitimate
It is possible there is no record of his birth, or he was not born in Denny Sterling
Originally I thought the "unknown" on his Death Reference for his parents meant
his son George did not know, perhaps Wm himself did not know.
Any information, suggestions, thoughts, remarks are welcome
Carole Barron
