I am searching for information about Bessie Chalmers ( my wife's Grandmother). Bessie
was born 3 June 1876 in Aradoul, Banffshire. She is the youngest child (we understand) of
George Chalmers and Ellen Moore (daughter of James Moore who had 5 girls). Bessie had 5
siblings, William, George, Rose, Jim and Alex. Her father died in 1890/189. Bessie and her
mother emigrated to Canada in 1891residing in Moosomin, Saskatchewan ( then the District
of Assiniboia, North West Territories ) where they operated a boarding/rooming house.
Ellen Chalmers died in 1908 after which Bessie became the housekeeper/head cook at a ranch
near Cardston, Alberta. It was there she met John Glasgow Robertson whom she married on 13
June 1909 in Calgary, Alberta. John and Bessie lived in Foremost, Alberta where John owned
and operated a gent's clothing store. They raised 5 children ( John,(my father-in-law)
George, Allan, Milton and Mary Ellen) in that town. I am interested in the date Bessie and
Ellen em!
igrated to Canada, the name of the boat they sailed on ( one source tells me it is the
"Mongolian"); the port of departure, the port of arrival in Canada; whoelse in
the family emigrated at the same time.I am currently gathering information to write a
family history of John and Bessie and their descendants. Bessie died in Calgary, Alberta
on 18 June 1954 and is buried in Foremost, Alberta.
Of Bessie's siblings I know that William was in the North West Mounted Police in
Canada; George served in the British Army; Alex came to Canada and died 20 November 1899
at the age of 20; Rose came to Canada at an earlier date and married one James Mennie (
they had 3 children ).
Can someone out there help me, please?
Thank you
