Looking for a connection between these 2 surnames. My gg gfather, William Wilson, left SC
and came to GA ca 1840 and was in Amunchee Co GA for the 1850 census. Wife was a Sarah unk
but she may have been a 2nd wife. They came to GA from unknown location in SC. They were
in DeKalb Co AL for the 1860 census. Children scattered to various parts unknown but my
great grandfather, Abraham/Abram/Abe, was in Morgan Co AL for the 1870 census.
One of my William's daughter was Manerva, born ca 1847 GA. She married David
Windrix/Wendrich in 1869 and was in Jackson Co AL for the 1870 census. Her father,
William, is shown in her home as being born ca 1801 SC. There is also in the home a
Josephine Chalmers (as far as I can tell; the surname is unclear) and she is shown as
being born ca 1860 AL. I know nothing about her and can find nothing else on her.
I know of no connection between my Wilson family and a Chalmers family but I did find
something in a record of very old marriages in SC. Paul Sarrett(?sp) has the info online.
I found a John Wilson marrying a Sarah Chalmers in Nov 1784 in Charleston SC. At least I
think it happened in Charleston. I also found a William Wilson marrying Polly (Mary?)
Harvey in Jan 1772; another John Wilson to a Mary Rake in Sept 1774; and a John Wilson to
Polly (Mary?) Rivers in Dec 1769.
Lastly, I found Lionel Chalmers to a Jehu Wilson in Nov of 1784.
Does any of this ring a bell to any Chalmers researcher? Sure hope so.
Paula
