Hello Rosemary and other listers;
The place Polmont, Stirlingshire is associated with my CHALMERS as well!
I don't know if Rosemary and I have a connection, but we could very well (I
hope!)
Alexander CHALMERS (b. c1812...I think, but that would have made his wife
much younger) and his wife Mary SPENCE (b. c1825) had a daughter named
Elizabeth Hardie CHALMERS (b. 1840, Kilsyth...not too far from Polmont.)
Elizabeth Hardie CHALMERS married John Stevenson in Polmont in 1867and their
daughter Elizabeth Chalmers STEVENSON (my great-grandmother) was born in
Kilsyth at 41 Backbrae later that year (not much later!!! : ) )
I understand that Backbrae Street in Kilsyth was known as "Chalmers' Land"
and that my Chalmers were also probably miners.
