Thanks so much for your reply. According to family documentation of my father his
grandmother Mary Chalmers was born about 1842 in Hooten Pagnell, Yorkshire. Her
father's name was Alexander Chalmers, born in Aberdeen,
about 1811.
I have a copy of the 1881 Census for an Alexander Chalmers who was living with his spouse,
Hannah Chalmers in Hutton Conyers, Yorks. The Census cites his birthdate as 1811 in
Turiff, Aberdeen. Hannah, his wife is listed as age 64, and born in Ostmotherly,
Yorkshire, England. I believe Hannah was Alexander's second spouse. She died Sept 1903
in Northallerton, Yorkshire at age 86.
In the 1891 Census, I found an Alexander Chalmers and his family living in Wilton Stank
& Hallikied, Yorkshire. They are listed as follows:
Alexander Chalmers age 53 born Ostmotherly, Yorks
Alexander T. Chalmers age 21 born Faceby, Yorks
Allan Chalmers age 19 born Faceby, Yorks
Charles Chalmers age 15 born Ostmotherly, Yorks
Hannah Chalmers age 53 born Over Seton, Yorks
Mabel F. Chalmers age 14 born Ostmotherly, Yorks
The above is most certainly your family. Could my Mary
have been a daughter of Alexander and Jean? I wonder when Jean died?
My Mary Chalmers [born about 1842] was married about 1863 to Thomas George Stephens.
Thomas George Stephens was an engineer with the London Midlands and Scottish RR, and they
moved about. In 1864, they were living in Leesds. In 1871, they were living in Durham and
in 1881 they were in Bradwell, Burckingham. By 1891, they were back in Yorkshire.
One other thing, My Mary was very tall [about 6 ft 2 inches].
Hope some of this data is useful.
