Hello Louise and Caroline,
The Gwent FHS fiche of transcriptions of MIs and burials for St Illtyd's
Church, Llanhilleth show:
B11
In Mem of Thomas, son of Samuel and Charlotte Chalenger of Cwmyrdderch,
who died Jan 2nd 1870, aged 9 months,
Also the above named Charlotte Challenger,
died Octr 4th 1872, aged 39 years
The burial register entries are:
Register 1
738, Thomas Challenger, Cwr...?, 8m, 06.01 1870
Register 2
121, Charlotte Challenger, ? , 39, 08.10.1872
There are four other burial entries for Challenger children in register 2
with the place shown as Cwmyrddach:
217, Thomas Challenger, 10m, 22.10.1874
243, Thomas Challenger, 5, 27.03.1875
433, Sarah Jane Challenger, 6, 11.11.1878
434, Francis Eve Challenger, 10m, 17.11.1878
Could these all be Samuel's children by Charlotte or Bessie? If so, there
are some discrepancies with dates/ages but the rector at that time was
notorious
for his undecipherable records according to the transcriber's note.
I hope this helps,
Lawford
