Hi List,
I think I need some help again :-))
Are the names above one and the same place please?
I have the first spelling as the District in Breconshire where the the sister of my
g.grandfather was born. The second is what I am guessing is the modern day spelling but I
am open to being told I am way off course.
The birth cert. is for one Elizabeth Challenger. Date of birth 25th April, 1860 at
Duke's Town, Llangunider. She was the daughter of Henry Challenger and Emma formerly
Walker. Henry was an Iron Miner.
You may recall last year I asked did anyone know of a George Henry Challenger - my
g.grandfather. Born according to the 1891 census in Aberaman, Glamorgan - around
1850's. One birth I have so far shows the father of a George Henry as Samuel. But
George Henry gave Henry as the name of his father when he married Jane Pritchard.
Maggie Challenger (daughter of George Henry) married an Alfred Challenger - who was the
brother of my George Henry - yes that's right. Alfred names his father as Henry on
their marriage cert. And finally, Elizabeth (known as Aunty Lizzie Thomas to my family -
she married a Henry Thomas in 1880) is shown as the daughter of Henry Challenger - so I
have finally discounted the idea of "my" George being the son of Samuel.
Sooooo, are these two places the same, does anyone have any Challengers up in that area in
the 1850's - 60's? Does the name Emma Challenger nee Walker ring any bells? She
was still alive in 1881 but a widow by then, living with her daughter and son in law plus
her two sons, Alfred and William.
Any help - suggestions? (apart from stick this lot on the back burner again:-)) .... )
would be greatfully received.
Regards
Louise.
