Hi David,
From the information you give, I suspect that this could be the family in
Clutton in 1851:
CHALLENGER, George, 57, Coal Miner, Clutton
Mary Ann, 53, Clutton
John, 26, Coal Miner, Clutton
Richard, 21, Coal Miner, Clutton
Joseph, 17, coal miner, Clutton
William, 14, Coal miner, Clutton
I hope someone else can verify this and perhaps give more information.
Nice to see some life in this list again!
Marion

Subject: [CHALLENGER] George Henry Challener / Challenger
I have two George Henry Challener cousins, sons of John and William
H.
Challener, who are decendents of George C Challen(g)er married to Mary
Sweet. From three legs of the family I have heard stories that George's
last name was Challenger, so I expect it is true. Supposedly, George C.
lived in Clutton, Sumersetshire. John and Williiam were both born in
England, but migrated to the US. William was born in 1837 in Clutton,
Sumersetshire, married "Jane" and had 3 kids - George Henry, William Albert,
and Laura. John married Ann Gill (born 9/28/1832) had 4 kids, George Henry,
Jlide, Eumura and Charles William. Lide was born in England Feb 1858.
George Henry born Jun 30, 1855 in Clutton.
I have all of their decendents, but would love to trace back to England. I
have heard that William H. was a coal miner if that is any help....
