Hi there
Some more Challengers with a Somerset connection
Charles Challenger born 1838 in Camerton. He married Ann born 1842 Wellow Somerset
their children were
Emily Challenger born 1865 Ebbw Vale South Wales
Sarah born 1867 Wellow, Somerset (my g grandmother)
Susan born 1871 Wellow
Charles born 1873 Willington Co Durham
John born 1875 Willington
George born 1877 Willington
Mary born 1879 Willington.
Charles born 1838 was a coalminer. He obviously moved to South Wales before 1865 (looking
for work ?) and then back to Somerset. He then moved up to the Durham coalfields before
1873 again looking for work ?
In the 1881 census he was living at 32 New Row Brancepath, Co Durham with his family.
My great grandmother Sarah married Robert Marr (my g grandfather) who was also a
coalminer. In 1891 they lived at 34 Old Row, Oakenshaw, Co. Durham.
There was another Challenger living 2 doors away at 31 Old Row, Oakenshaw in 1891.
He was George Challenger born 1880 at New Bowling, Somerset. He was a coalminer and was
a boarder at 31 Old Row, Oakenshaw
Checking with the 1881 census I think he was the son of
William Challenger born 1835 Radstock
Mary his wife born 1839 Dunkerton
children
John born 1861 Stafford
Charles b 1863 Dunkerton
William b 1865 Dunkerton
Mary Ann b 1866 Pontypool, South Wales
Sarah Ann born 1868 Dunkerton
GEORGE b 1870 Dunkerton
Elisabeth Ann b 1872 Dunkerton
Frederick b 1875 Dunkerton
Albert b 1877 Dunkerton
William's occupation is given as coalminer
and he and his family were living at Bath Road, Dunkerton in 1881
Love to hear from anyone interested in these Challengers

Many thanks for posting these, Andy, and also to David for the Parfitt ones.
Did you work out the Families from IGI fiche or from Familysearch? They are very
interesting - you have some hopeful siblings for William, even if no mother yet.
Frustratingly though, no birth/baptism yet for the Benjamin who married Mary Ann
Tucker - the ones on IGI are too old or too young. I'd like to know what
relation he was to her.
