Hi Roger, this is my line..
My line goes John Challenger > William> Jane + Thomas Tucker > Moses > Elizabeth
There is also the line:
Jane Challenger + Thomas Tucker > Mary Ann Tucker + Benjamin Challenger. I
thought this Benjamin was a descendant of Job Challenger brother of John, but
I'm getting totally confused now.
Help!
Marion

Hello Maggie,
I am indeed interested in Challenger's in Clutton as this where I seem to
have several generations of Benjamin Challenger. I've included my line.
Yes please, I'd love to have the Clutton Parish entries.
I'm interested in all Challenger's in Somerset & Wales but initially I'm
concentrating on Challenger's in Clutton, Somerset and nearby. Mid 1700 -
mid 1800's. Later I'll look into PARKER's in the Bath area.
Many thanks for your kind offer.

Andy,
None of the lists I've subbed to have this option set, and apparantly the
consensus among listowners is that it is not desirable. In practice, most people
select "reply to all", thus ensuring that their reply goes direct to the
individual as well as to the list. This does lead to duplication for the
recipient, but is perhaps better than no reply at all!
If other subscibers would prefer their replies to go automatically to the list,
please let me know, and maybe we could try it for a while. I am very new at
this!
While writing, could I please encourage new subscribers to contribute - even if
no-one can help or find a connection at present, the messages are archived and
any query or information submittted at present could help someone in the future.
Best wishes,
Marion

Subject: List Replies
Hello Marion,
Does your list administration facility let you set things so that when one
'replies to' a posting, the reply goes to the list, rather than the original
poster?
With one of the other rootsweb lists to which I subscribe (the Horler list),
replies to a posting go to the list, not the first sender.
Regards,
-- Andy.
Many thanks for joining the list Caroline, and for your wealth of information!
It seems you have not only identified Benjamin who maried Mary Ann Tucker, but
also given his relationship to her (second cousin I think). I really need to
print off your mail so I can get my tree sorted, but am running out of ink, and
have little peaceful time to do it!
I have also been contacted by a couple of other Challengers who responded to
message board postings and I hope they will be joining the list soon.

Hello to all you Challenger reserchers My name is Caroline Saunders Nee Challenger. I have been reserching my maiden name for the last 7years and have collected a welth of information on the Challengers of Somerset & South Wales. I have several contact's who are interested in difrent branches of my family & I am willing to help any one with there Challenger reserch.
I have a new contact that is researching William Challenger & Charlotte Pearce who moved to Blackwood, in Bedwellty, Monmouthshire by the 1861 Census his name is Alan Challenger his e-mail address is: Steelshopman(a)aol.com
I have been able to identified several Clutton Challengers who married at Temple Bristol, but returned to the parish of Clutton to live information from the census records.
Jane married Thomas Tucker on 2/ Feb/ 1784 Clutton, their daughter Mary Ann Tucker married Benjamin Challenger of Clutton in Temple Bristol on 21 May 1809. they also lived in Clutton according to census records.
These are also the parent's of Ann Challenger bn 1812 Clutton.she married James Simmons 1832 in Clutton.
(this is Maureen Simmons family, ask me for her address if this line is of interest as she is not on the internet. )
By using baptism's along with census records I was able to Identify Mary Ann Challenger, Nee Tucker who was bn Midsomer Norton and widowed before the 1841 census as her Husband Benjamin Challenger had died in Clutton 22 Oct 1839. details of the census are as follows.
1841 Ho107 938/6 page 8 folio 8 dist 1 Clutton.
Mary Ann Challenger 55 pauper y ( nee Tucker )
Thomas Challenger 20 coalminer y ( Thomas Tucker Challenger baptised 1817 Midsomer Norton Wesleyan )
James Challenger 15 y ( baptised 30 / 9 / 1822 Midsomer Norton Wesleyan )
George Challenger 10 y ( baptised 18 / 2 / 1827 Clutton )
Betty Challenger 75 pauper y ( Mother-in-law )
Edmond Challenger 80 pauper y ( farther-in-law ) bn 16 / 8 / 1763 son of Job & Bettie------?------ Clutton
1841 Ho107 938/6 page 5 folio 31 dist 3 Clutton
Benjamin Challenger 30 miner y ( son of Benjamin & Mary Ann Challenger nee Tucker bapt 25 / 12 /1809 in Clutton )
Grace Challenger 30 y ( nee Rogers marr 25 / 12 / 1835 St James Bristol )
Ellen Challenger 4 y
Martha Challenger 2 y
Using the information found on the above census I was able to identify Benjamin's birth 1784 parents
Betty & Edmond Challenger not Benjamin & Mary Challenger nee Lane as Moreen Simmons had thought. This Mary was bn in Clutton according to following census records. Unlike Mary Ann nee Tucker who always gave her birth place as Midsomer Norton.

There was another child born to Benjamin & Mary Ann Challenger nee Tucker,
he was Jonas Challenger bapt 30 April 1815 at Clutton. = Elizabeth Rogers 4 April 1839 Clutton ( Lawford Thomas at lawford(a)rissington.demon.co.uk is decended from this branch )
I hope I have not confused you with all these census record but I wonted to show you how I identified
Mary Ann Tucker as the wife of Benjamin Challenger the son of Edmond Challenger.
Edmond was the son of Job Challenger & his wife Mary Perry of Clutton
Job was baptised at Chelwood Independent 4 March 1743 son of John Challenger.
Job was also the brother of William who was bapt Chelwood Independent on the 5 Sept 1735. William Challenger of Clutton & Martha Britten of the parish of Midsomer Norton married at St Nicholas church, Radstock on the 18 Sept 1760
They had seven children, named as follows:
Samuel Challenger bapt 16 Nov 1760 Midsomer Norton, = Elizabeth White 1 Jan 1787 at Radstock ( these are my 4x ggparents)
Jane Challenger bapt 11 April 1762 Midsomer Norton, = Thomas Tucker 2 Feb 1784 at Midsomer Norton ( Marian Teague & Maureen Simmons line )
Aaron Challenger bapt 9 Oct 1763 Midsomer Norton = Betty Summers 3 Nov 1801 Midsomer Norton
John Challenger bapt 8 Mar 1767 Midsomer Norton = Mary Venn 23 Oct 1793 Midsomer Norton
James Challenger bapt 8 Mar 1767 Midsomer Norton =
Phebe Challenger bapt 25 May 1770 Midsomer Norton = John Harding 24 Feb 1791 Camerton ( Jim Hazlett's is decended from this branch of the family his e-mail address is JHazl(a)aol.com )
Sarah Challenger bapt 25 April 1771 Midsomer Norton = John Rowswell 19 June 1797 Midsomer Norton
These are all the children I have been able to find belonging to William & Martha but I think there may have been a William ?
Keep in touch
Regards to you all
