Hi
I'm a newbie to rootsweb and researching my paternal side of the family - CHALK's
- to my knowledge lived in Kingston upon Thames in Surrey up until 1950's and I have
proof dating back to late 1800s. Does anyone have any other information on the Chalks?
Maybe a business link? I know that they were a family business of builders merchants and
I have been told were instrumental in building a lot of the Fairfields area in Kingston.
Apparently the name is mentioned in the Charter of Kingston (but this is only heresay - I
have no proof yet). The Chalk's I have names for are Edward Chalk 1873-1939, siblings
Leo, Hilda, Edward Charles, Christina all between 1903 and 1920. I also have scribblings
from my grandmother Chalk that the families Atkins, Fowlers, Thompsons were inter-married
with each other. I can't find any links there yet. If anyone has any clues of
business contacts with this family I would be interested to hear from you.
Thank you
