To Jenny (List Mom) and others,
I'm sorry that I didn't put more information with the names I am
researching. In looking at the archives I did post more information on 27
April and repeat it here for those interested:
My grandmother was Leila Mary CHALK, b. 05 July 1885, Pendleton,
Umatilla, OR, d. Jan 1978, Seattle, King, WA. She married Albert BRYGGER
who was born in Seattle, King, WA from a pioneer family, and said to have
been the first white child born in Ballard (now part of Seattle). I am
originally from Seattle.
Leila's parents were:
Father: William Thomas CHALK, b. 03 Jan 1844, Georgetown, Williamson,
TX, d. Nov 1918, Seattle, King, WA.
Mother: Annie Eliza WINSTON, b. 22 Sep 1853, Oregon City, OR, d. Aug
1919, Seattle, King, WA.
Leila's grandparents were:
Grandfather: Whitfield CHALK, b. 02 Apr 1811, Herford Co., NC, d. 19 May
1902, Kempner, Lampasas, TX
Grandmother: Mary FLEMING, b. 1833, Hall Co., GA, d. 01 Jan 1903,
Kempner, Lampasas, TX
Names I am researching:
CHALK, WINSTON, BRYGGER, PEDERSON, RUNNER and allied families.
Dead ends: (MANY !! as I am sure all have)
So far all I have is Annie Eliza WINSTON's birth and death dates and
locations. Who are her parents and where are they from? The HISTORY OF
WASHINGTON by Clarence Bagley states that "Mr. Brygger married Leila Mary
Chalk, member of a pioneer Virginia family, who migrated to the West,
originally settling in Oregon and later coming to Seattle." The ones who
migrated were the Chalks from Texas. Who was from Virginia? the Winstons?
Many other dead ends, but will ask more periodically. All my information
has been either from the 'net or from very thoughtful people on message
boards.
One nugget I found was a bio on Whitfield CHALK on the HANDBOOK OF TEXAS
ONLINE. He led a very interesting life.
Enough for now.
