Michael,
I have researched the Chain's in Pennsylvania as my families oral history says that
they were from Westmoreland County which is just east of Pittsburgh. I have also found a
few Chains in the Philadelphia area in the late 1700's. I have a William Chain who
was the older brother of my GG Grandfather. They apparently moved from Pennsylvania to
Louisiana.
William appears to be a common name in various Chain families. The 1790 census for
Pennsylvania was helpful for me in locating some of the Chain family in Pennsylvania.
If I can be of help please let me know.
Steven Chain

Hello!
My name is Michael Shain. I am a descendant of Francis Chain/Shain who came to Kentucky
after Lord Dunmores War of 1774. He was the brother of Thomas/William Chain/Shain I
believe, and they were from Pennsylvania. I can find references to John and William Chain
in PA but cannot put the pieces together. If anyone can help or send my inquiry to the
appropriate person, I would be very thankful. Thanks, Michael.
