Mike,
Being primarily a Rutland researcher, I don't visit this board much, but today I
was out at the Shiloh Church cemetery and found three Chain graves I am curious about. I
believe they may be sons and a daughter in law of James Alexander Chain and Susan Rutland
Chain.
Thomas A. Chain
Mar 20, 1877-Mar 6, 1919
Nora, w/o Thomas A
May 28, 1890-May 2, 1979
Charlie Q. Chain
1870-1947
My chart shows a son, Thomas, b 1879 and a son, Charlie, b 1870. Can you verify these are
the sons of James A and Susan Chain? If so, what was Nora's maiden name?
Also, I would like to update the info on Asa Rutland. I have located a petition, dated
1813 and signed by Asa Rutkin ?, among others, for the division of Marion Co, MS. I have
also located Asa on the 1816 Pike Co, MS census, the 1817, and 1825 Pike Co MS tax lists.
It is my belief that Asa may have been born prior to 1795, as earlier reported. Nothing
definite yet, but it seems likely. The 1816 census only shows he is over 21.
Too, William Rutland is found on the 1840 Covington Co, MS census and in the household is
a white female of an age brackett to be Catherine Rutland. William didn't marry until
1845 and the lady isn't his mother-in-law. Catherine is counted herself in 1850, next
door to William, with Susan and Andrew in her household. It seems probable that Asa died
prior to the census of 1840.
Thanks,
Loretta
