Peggy: It is not true that William Chain was probably from Laine, Ireland (there is no
such place). That seems to be widely reported on the internet and stems from information I
forwarded to a researcher in California. I had done some research in Ireland on a Chain
family there where one James Chain lived in Larne, Ireland. James Chain's line in
Ireland is not connected (as far as I can tell from my research)to William Chain who lived
and died in Fayette Co., PA. It is entirey possible William Chain of Fayette Co.,
Pennsylvania, (probably of Scots-Irish descent) came to America from Ireland but certainly
NOT from Laine, Ireland. Hope this helps in your research.
