I totally agree with your thought that when an apparent child was omitted from a will by
the parent did not necessarily mean he was not a child. Many times a parent would deed
some land, some slaves, or give some money or other assets directly to that child and then
leave him out of his will.
I would always go back to the county records where the both of them lived and dig out any
records in the deed book to see if the son got any land deeded to him by his father but I
feel you have already done this since you sound rather diligent on your research.
This Joshua Sr. is the one and same who wrote his will and gave something to a daugher
named Sally/Sarah Cheatham. My friend in Tallahassee, FL descends from Sarah who married
Eppes Cheatham. Sarah died in GA in 1830. I do not have all these proofs yet but working
in that direction.
