I am a descendant of Robert Chaffin, Jr. who died in Lawrence Co. TN the 27th July 1833,
through his daughter Nancy Ann Chaffin born 6 Apr 1790 and died 5 June 1868. Nancy married
George Gresham, and their daughter Nancy M. was born 17 Jan 1819 and died 5 July 1903 in
Wayne Co., TN. Nancy M. married Joel Sumter Whitten. Is this the same Robert Chaffin you
are referring to? Probably not, I am sure there are many Robert Chaffins, and I am not
familiar with the book you refer to. I wish you had included some dates or places for
reference.
I also descend from ELI CHAFFIN of Crawford Co., IL. Eli came to the Republic of Texas
with some of the Parker family. Eli died in Oct. of 1845. Eli married Lavenia Row and
their daughter Mary Melissa Jane CHAFFIN was born in Clinton Co. IL in 1839 and died in
1902 in Cherokee Co. TX. She married Perry Holleyman in Limestone Co. TX 6 Jul 1856.
Would love to hear from anyone connected to either of these lines. They may be connected,
but not that I know of.

Subject: Decendants of Robert CHAFFIN
Hello all,
Boy, last time I checked there was no CHAFFIN list on Rootsweb... guess
it's been a while!
I am a decendant of Robert CHAFFIN ("History of Robert Chaffin and His
Decendants" by William L. Chaffin). The last generation of my line to be
in the book is my grandfather Linwood Libby CHAFFIN. I have been hoping to
be able find the living decendants of those in the book - work on bringing
the lines up to date. Is anyone else pursuing this? Has anyone had any
luck establishing with more certainty any of the European history of the
CHAFFIN family or the parentage of Robert CHAFFIN? A few years ago I began
trying to check some of this out but have not been able to devote the time
and resources to it that I would like to.
Eagerly awaiting contact with new "cousins"!
Marianne Chaffin Strickland
