Stephen Chaffee and Ruth Underwood are my g g g grandparents. Stephen is half brother of
my 4th great grandfather, Nathan Chaffee. I am descended from both of their father, James
Chaffee's, wives. (Meaning that I am a double Chaffee.)
Their son Daniel or David is my g g granduncle. I have his birthdate as Jan. 18, 1800.
I find in my notes that I suspected David to be the Daniel in the 1850 census, Gustavus,
Trumbull, OH, with Julianna his wife and children, Stephen, James & Julia, but no
Cyrena (however it's spelled). There are also 2 Highland children there.
My great great grandfather, James Cady Chaffee, born Feb. 22, 1804 is Daniel's
brother. He was also in Trumbull, OH (in Kinsman) in 1850, so there must have been
something drawing these Chaffees to that county and state about then.
I lose track of James Cady Chaffee between census date 1850 and census date 1870 where he
shows up in Dunleith, Jo Daviess County, Illinois. During that time he abandoned his wife,
who was also his 2nd cousin once removed, Lucy Adaline Chaffee. She is in Lyons Twp,
Clinton, IA in 1860, but he is not with her. And she disappears in 1870, only to show up
in 1880 in Floyd, Warren, IL.
My great grandfather, son of James & Lucy, married Anna Cylena Underwood in Warren
County, IL. She is the 3rd cousin twice removed of the above mentioned Ruth Underwood.
I'm a double Underwood too!
I guess this is not helping you much. I am not rejecting at all what you had to say about
Kevin's line. I haven't figured out what he would be to me, and I would like to.
