Good Afternoon Family,
I have hit a small snag.
According to the documentation that I have pretty much seen as being accurate by most of
the Chaffe's, Ivan Gene's wife has been Garnett Hyatt.
While trying to find Garnett's parents, I ran across some information from someone
that has been doing research on the Hyatt line. He pointed me to an entry in the
Richardson County Nebraska 1920 Census. This shows a Garnett Hiatt living with her mother
and father (John A. and Elizabeth). The age seems to be a little off (though unsure since
there is no confirmed birth record for Garnett), but it is in the same county as the 1930
Census where she shows up as being the wife of Ivan Chaffee. The same person that pointed
me to the 1920 Census, found Garnett again on the 1910 Census in a different county (again
with John A. and Elizabeth) only this time they show up as Hudd (he is pretty certain that
this is a mistake on the Census).
The question comes down to....do we give enough leway (sp?) for the census to make this a
match? It would be very nice if this was a match because the person that directed me to
this has documentation on John A Hiatt back quite a ways, and since this is only 3
Generations back from me...it would fill a large gap in my tree.
Thoughts and opinions on this match? If you had found this information in your research,
would you chalk it up to a mistake on the census, or consider it two different people?
The good news is that all three of Garnett's children are living (including my
grandfather), so I am in the middle of asking them about their mother to maybe shed some
light on the situation, but until I receive a response, I though I would ask my broader
family.
Thanks in advance.
