Subject: [CHAFFEE] J.M. CHAFFEE/ABBIE D. RICE
Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 14:51:28 EST
Hi,
I am searching for ANY information regarding the Abbie D. RICE, "Mother,"
b.
ca. 1812 in NY (parents both born Connecticut) and listed in the 1880
Census
for Windsor, Broome Co., NY, as living with the J.M. CHAFFE family?? She
POSSIBLY could be the gr.gr. grandmother, Abigail MOORE RICE, born ca. 1813
in Tompkins Co., NY for whom I have been searching. BUT, I see that
according
to a CHAFFEE GENEALOGY, Gertrude C. THOMPSON was the (1st) wife of James
Marion Chaffee, allegedly father of a son named Ernest RICE CHAFFEE, also
named in the census entry!
The RICE certainly could have come from the family of the "Mother," Abbie
D.
RICE, but who WAS she ... and how could she have been "Gellie's" mother?!
OR,
was she J.M.'s (James?) mother who had been widowed, remarried to a RICE,
and
widowed yet again??
Did James Marion have a second wife?
Thanks for your time and any help you can give me on this ... ?
