Message Board Post:
I'm researching the JUSTIN/JUSTINE family.
My branch originated in New England prior to the Revolutionary War, most likely Rhode
Island and Connecticut. In 1814 John JUSTIN(E) married Polly CHAFFEE in Herkimer County
New York, possibly in the Newport/Fairfield area. They had one son, Alonzo, born 07 Aug
1815 in Herkimer County. John disappears (this is my brick wall) by 1817-1819. Polly
marries William H. Bowman and raises her family in Herkimer/Montgomery Counties.
An Abbey JUSTINE is listed as the first School Teacher of Newport, Herkimer County in 1795
and is probably related to John JUSTIN(E).
Polly CHAFFEE's brother, Alpha CHAFFEE, lives in Herkimer County per the 1820 Federal
Census. Alpha CHAFFEE Jr. and Polly migrated to Herkimer prior to 1820 from Thurman,
Washington (now Warren) County, New York. Their father was Alpha CHAFFEE Sr.. The CHAFFEE
line is well documented in "The CHAFFEE GENEALOGY of 1909".
By the mid 1830's, the extended JUSTIN/CHAFFEE/BOWMAN clan migrates to Gorham New York
and then to St. Clair County Michigan in the early 1840's.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
