Hello,
I'm looking especially for information on Jeremiah Chadwick (born 1 MAY 1755,
died 11 JUN 1779). This is how he fits into the family:
John Chadwick (born possibly ca 1680, died 20 JUN 1739) of NJ, married 1712
Bermuda, Johanna/Joanna Runnels/Reynolds (died 20 SEP 1739). They had a son
John.
Notes on John:
John is believed to have settled at Long Branch, NJ in 1680.
He may have been a man of the sea, explaining how he met Johanna.
The LDS records indicate a son older than John.
John Chadwick (born 12 MAR 1713, died 18 APR 1783) married Ann Martha Jackson
(born 29 DEC 1713, died 22 OCT 1799). Their children: Elizabeth, William,
John, Francis, Samuel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas, Mary Ann, Jeremiah, and
Elihu.
Notes on John:
He may have been born on Bermuda
He was baptized on 2 JUL 1738 at Christ Church, Shrewsbury.
He is listed as a member of the NJ Militia, and appears to have been a
'privateer'.
He died several days after the official end of the Revolutionary War, in
a skirmish
on New York Bay.
Sons Thomas (Capt.), Elihu (Lieut. Col.), and Jeremiah (Lieut. in Thomas'
company) are listed as members of the NJ Militia., and also fought in
the
Revolution. William and John are also believed to have participated.
Son Elihu's Revolutionary War Pension Record confirms the first three
generations. It also states that a Hugh Jackson (born 12 MAR 1683,
died AUG
1750) resided with the family.
Jeremiah Chadwick (born 1 MAY 1755, died 11 JUN 1779) married Deborah Worthy.
Notes on Jeremiah:
Jeremiah died, in battle, at Tinton Falls, NJ. He, and other Patriots,
had been
taken prisoner by a "refugee" raiding party. Jeremiah is reported to
have tried to
escape, grabbed an unloaded musket to shoot at his captors, and was
shot.
Notes on Deborah:
Nothing more is know. What became of her, and son Thomas, following
Jeremiah's death is a "brick wall". Did she remain in NJ, or did she
move away?
Did she remarry? Who are her parents and siblings?
Thanks for any help,
Sarah
