In the spring of 1775, Henry County, he was drafted into the service of the United States
for the term of three months, as a private in the Virginia Militia, and placed under the
command of CAPT. DAVID CHADWELL and marched to Fort Hatfield on New River, where he was
retained in the service of the United States until the expiration of the said three
months, when he was discharged. His mess mates were Wm. Small, Ned North, and John
Hodges. (sworn statement by Elijah Ison, July 1846, McMinn County, Tenn. age 59.)

At a meeting of the Pittsylvania Committee on Monday 27 of Feb. 1775, the following
gentlemen are nominated as officers for the Militia, agreeable to the ordinance of
Convention viz: John Donalson, Esq; Lt. Robert Williams, Esq; Col. William Turnstall; Lt.
Col. John Wilson, Esq; Major Charles Irby and David Chadwell as Ensigns.

Warrant to Captain David Chadwell, for pay rations, etc. of his Company of Militia from
Henry County, on duty in Mongomery County, Pay Roll etc. 330--17-10
I declare the above mentioned reference to Capt. David Chadwell to be a true copy from the
volume mentioned, also that it is the only reference to the said David Chadwell among the
Revolutionary Archives of the State of Virginia.

With regard to the Chadwell Book, I attempted to get a copy of the book a number of years
ago, but none was available. I have the information from the book as pertains to my
family because another Chadwell cousin, who owned a book allowed me access to it for a
year.
There are probably copies available for research through certain genealogy libraries.
