Message Board Post:
I'm trying to learn more about John Chadwell who was a stagecoach driver in Texas in
the 1880s. He appears in the 1880 census for Fredericksburg, Gillespie County, TX. The
census says he's single and that he and several other stage coach drivers (U.S. Mail)
are boarders in a hotel on San Saba Street. He may also have spent some time in San
Antonio.
The census notation for his birthplace is hard to read.
Ancestry.com thinks it says
Mississippi. It does start with an "M" but isn't clear at all. The census
doesn't show the place of birth of either of his parents.
If anyone has any information on this fellow, I would be most interested to learn more.
Thank you!
