John E. 'Jack' Chadbourne, 78, S. PORTLAND, ME & ENGLEWOOD, FLA.- died
Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at his home in South Portland [an Uncle of Dr. Kate Chadbourne
Kitty and I were sad not to have know sooner of his cancer or death, so near to us. ~Ted
C. Jack was at times a Director of the CFA, as well as being Chair of the important

["Jack"] was born in Biddeford, on Aug. 25, 1926, a son of Paul E. and Hazel
Maxwell Chadbourne. He attended Saco Schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in l944.
During his senior year at Thornton, he was among a group who enlisted in the U.S. Army Air
Force and after graduation entered the service. He saw two tours of duty, having enlisted
a second time, and was stationed in Guam.
He graduated from The University of Maine in Orono in l951 and was a member of Phi Gamma
Delta Fraternity. He retired in l992 from American-Standard Companies after forty years as
a Sales Representative and Sales Manager in the Boston and Western Massachusetts area. He
was a member of Hampden Lodge/ Indian Orchard Masonic Lodge A.F.& A.M., Springfield,
Mass.; The Englewood, Fla. Elks Lodge 2378; The Southwest Florida Maine Group, and The
Chadbourne Family Association.
After retirement, Jack and his wife, Nancy, sold their home in Lynnfield, Mass. and
returned to South Portland for summers and Englewood Beach, Fla. for winters. He was
active in the Englewood Beach Condo Association, enjoyed playing golf, spending time at
the beach, and was an avid reader. While living in Lynnfield, Mass., he and Nancy were
members of Centre Congregational Church. When his son was small, he was a Little League
baseball coach in Lynnfield.
Jack was a very special and devoted Husband, Dad, Grampa to Colin and Alex, 'Papa'
to Nicky and Danielle, and a friend. His greatest joy was his family. He will be
remembered by many for his kind and gentle ways.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy Davis Chadbourne; a daughter, Jane E.
Chadbourne of Lakewood, Colo., and her children, Colin and Alexander Rice; a son, John E.
Chadbourne Jr. of Nashua, N. H. and his children, Nicholas and Danielle Chadbourne. He is
also survived by two brothers, Edward M. Chadbourne and his wife, Elaine, and Glenn P.
Chadbourne and his wife, Carol, all of Saco, Other survivors include: David and Anna
Davis, Cape Elizabeth, Ervin and Judith Davis Morin of Old Orchard; Gwendolyn Davis,
Edward and Lorraine Davis Jackman, Paul and Priscilla Davis all of South Portland and Ruth
M. Chadbourne of Saco. He leaves many nieces and nephews.
Jack's family gratefully acknowledges and thanks Dr. Thomas J. Ervin and the staff at
Maine Center for Cancer Medicine; the nursing staff at Gibson Pavilion, Maine Medical
Center; and the VNA-Hospice of South Portland for their excellent care of Jack and their
