Sorry for the long e-mail message, but we're catching up by about six
months.
(This is in plain text, but please advise if you are adverse to rich-text
e-mail.)
1. You are on this Chadbourne mailing List because you subscribed to
CHADBOURNE-L(a)rootsweb.com, though a very few may receive it as a blind copy.
So far, this in not a very active List. If you reply, please note the
default reply address, which you can change in the "To:" field.
2. We regret to announce the death of our Chadbourne Family Genealogist,
Elaine Chadbourne Bacon.
(More on that loss and a tribute to Elaine will be found at a website
defined in the paragraph 8 of this message.) You likely noted that our
outgoing CFA President, George Sanborn, Jr. (a professional genealogist)
answered a genealogical query on this e-mail List earlier this Sunday
evening. Elaine would have been the one to reply had she not died recently
from complications of her lung problems. (It will be another month before a
successor Genealogist is elected at our Annual Meeting in Maine - for which
see p. 10).
NOTE: If you reply to this message PLEASE DON'T INCLUDE a FULL QUOTEBACK.
If your computer is so programmed, please delete all not needed for your
comments.

4. Many subscribers to the CHADBOURNE-List also receive news from the
Chadbourne Family Association (CFA) in other ways, so for many of your this
is NOT new news, but it's important for all interested in Chadbourne family
history and other aspects of our organization to learn of important recent
developments.
5. In addition to copies of our "Pied Cow" Newsletter, another major form
of COMMUNICATION to Chadbourne descendants (and any other interested
parties) has been by "Dispatches" from the CFA website, which has enabled
the sending of these. There will be NO MORE of those, in that form, after
the SCHEDULED SEPT. 30th, DISCONTINUANCE of free hosting service at our
original but expiring website:
http://mainetoday.koz.com/maine/cfa.
6. If you've not received any such "Dispatch" from MaineToday in the past,
you have just the last few days of September to go to that website and elect
to "Participate" - a way of getting bulletins and notice of changes. Later
this week I'll copy for future notifications the updated list of
Participants. As Webmaster, I'll note those folks as interested parties,
though we've not yet settled on a way to communicate with you other than
this Chadbourne-List, and the much more interesting Newsletter (included in
your $10 per year membership.) Dues may be sent to the Chadbourne Family
Association c/o Linda Hanscom, HCR 77 Box 8350 Chadbourne's Ridge, North
Waterboro, ME 04061-9612, If you find yourself already under
"Participants" at
http://mainetoday.koz.com/maine/cfa, you may correct data
in the next few days, but please don't accidentally duplicate your entry.
7. There is no provision for an automated Participate function at either
website being built for
http://www.chadbourne.org, but an everyname index to
the 1994 book should be there by the reunion, as well as copies of the
reviews of our CD-2000, which carries daughter of daughters for several
early generations, so likely the most reliable source for the first several
generations of SPENCERs &
GOODWINs who originated in Kittery/Berwick, Maine. (I'll have to address
separately a sub-site we've had primarily to collect the names of those
interested in the Ancestry of Thomas SPENCER and his wife, Patience 2
Chadbourne.)
8. Your BEST SOURCE of Chadbourn(e) family history data is on our CD-ROM
2000, to which George referred. Favorably reviewed in three publications
now, it's available for half the cost of the highly-acclaimed sold-out but
book which Elaine compiled for the CFA.
An interim website for at least the next few days will be found compliments
of Kay Ritter's kmrco website, to which you'll be directed by addressing
http://www.chadbourne.org this week. The bottom of that website's front
page (scroll down) has a new link "REMEMBERING ELAINE BACON".
9. So long as that site re-directs to the kmrco site, Options at the left
of the screen include a link with description of the CD-ROM. The Maine
Today folks offered a free website to each of their 35 most popular
websites, of some 1400, and we were flattered to be included. If we use
them as a host site, I will re-direct
http://www.chadbourne.org to reach the
new "communities" website, so no new website names for you to learn. (But
remember to change to the above if your "Bookmark" or "Favorite Sites"
links
go to our old, expiring, KOZ address. (If you like discussion and have a
preference between a surname webpage at
MyFamily.com and this type of List
e-mail going directly to subscriber, I'd like to read your reasons for
preference.) Either to be commercial-free.
10. REUNION - during foliage season as most years - is October 20 and 21,
2001, with Saturday at the Old Berwick Historical Society in South Berwick,
within about fifteen miles of Portsmouth N.H., and Kittery, Maine, where the
program will include a tutorial on use of the four advanced programs
included on the CD, after a joint meeting with the descendants of Thomas
Spencer and Daniel Goodwin, the latter including a presentation that the
Daniel Goodwin we know in Maine apparently first came to Virginia, by Mr.
Sharpe of the Goodwin Family Association. That supper (dutch treat),
evening and next day, Sunday will be at the Salmon Falls Country Club in
HOLLIS, Maine, and will feature, among other elements, a presentation by an
eminent historian of the Lower Piscataqua River Region, Joseph William
Pepperrell Frost. (Please note that the reunion is NOT well described on
our in-transition websites yet, but is in the Newsletter, which will be sent
all new members as they join.)
NOTE: If you reply to this message PLEASE DON'T include a FULL QUOTEBACK.
If your computer is programmed for that, please delete all that's not needed
for your comments. Thanks for your consideration!
~ Ted Chadbourne, CFA Webmaster; Chair of Editorial & Publ. Comm.
