Hi,
Received notification from an attendee to FGS annual conference (3-6
Sept.2003) that the Family History Library catalog
www.familysearch.org
is now scheduled to be updated every 3 hrs. during the work week, a
minimum of once a day. Previously, the most up-to-date catalog was only
available at FHL itself at the reference deks.
This renders almost obsolete the CDs and microfiche versions of the FHL
Catalog available at the FHCs. This also means that researchers can
visit the most up-to-date catalog online from any internet connection
including home computers.
There are several methods for getting to the online catalog at above
URL. One method is to click the LIBRARY tab, and then click on the
FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY CATALOG link on the horizontal navigation bar.
Search options include:
--place
--surname
--keyword
--title
--author
--subject
--call number
--fiche/film number
to locate resources including indexes, histories, compiled genealogies,
and filmed original documents to help w/ your ancestral quest. This new
plan is the most cost effective wayof distributing the catalog
information to millions of researchers throughout the world.
Happy family tree climbing!
