calUpdates
^ [End of partial quote.] ^ Any who aren't updating MS Windows and
other MS programs (to avoid their computer being controlled by others,
in any of several ways - such as sending messages apparently from you,
to all in your address book) should at least view this site, I believe.
Options there include to be notified when there's a new "Critical Update".
(This is the first one for some time, I believe, but you may find many more
if you've not checked for awhile.) As many of you know, Microsoft (whom I
trust, but the target of the largest number of virus writers) somehow
cleverly, automatically sees what you have already for enhanced security and
alerts you to further protection, without keeping information in their
system about your computer. Optionally, they show you details of upgrade
packages and/or what you've already installed for enhanced security or
functionality. There is no charge for these security + enhancement
upgrades.
In between their updates (and those about weekly from the anti-virus
programs), even one trying to keep up with these clever kids can
experience things like I did within three days, described in message to
follow.
Every 3 AM as we sleep, this hard drive is scanned by:
* McAfee VirusScan version 5.15.0002
Scan engine 4.1.20
Virus definitions (DAT) 4.0.4117 released 24 Jan. 2001
Those are free upgrades of McAfee anti-virus that came on this computer.
Automatic-executing upgrade files are just a few clicks & one re-start away.
McAfee users may compare yours by right clicking on red-white-blue shield
in lower rt. corner of screen + About; on "desktop"; or Start, Run,
Programs.
Questions to McAfee Help contacts at

please.
