Jonathan CESSNA (b. 21 Jan 1821 - d. 11 Jun 1868) was my great-grandfather's brother
and the reason my great-grandfather [Thomas Benton CESSNA (27 Sep 1840 - 19 Feb 1890)
ended up moving to Lawrence Co., IL. When Jonathan died in 1868, Thomas Benton Cessna
moved to Lawrence Co., IL from Bedford, PA where he was a school teacher. He moved to
Illinois in order to help out his sister-in-law [Susan MARTIN (24 Aug 1826 - 13 May 1881)]
and her seven children after his brother's death. He then found a job as a school
teacher in Lawrence Co., IL and married Susan MARTIN's niece whose name was Mary Susan
MARTIN (1853-1888).
There are a few other Jonathan Cessnas who could have served in the Civil War:
Jonathan CESSNA (1 Apr 1789 - 17 Oct 1868) married to Catharine BOOR and son of Jonathan
CESSNA and Rebecca WORLEY. [This Jonathan was probably too old to have served in the
Civil War.]
Jonathan CESSNA (Abt. 1812 in Buffalo Mills, Bedford Co., PA - 26 Dec 1871 in Kansas, OH)
married to Elizabeth KARR and son of William CESSNA and Nancy BARNES.
Jonathan Boone CESSNA (b. 24 Mar 1840) and married to Katharine BROWN and son of William
CESSNA and Rachel MORGART.
Jonathan Friend CESSNA (b. 16 Nov 1804 - 19 May 1885) and married to Nancy MILLER and son
of William CESSNA and Sally WALLACE.
Jonathan Wilson CESSNA (b. 27 Oct 1824 - 5 Nov 1914) and married to Elizabeth Jane
MATTHEWS and son of Jonathan CESSNA and Cahtarine BOOR.
That's the list in my database.
