ELI CENTER, son of William Center, was born in South Carolina, in 1811. He migrated to
Walker County, Georgia in 1850 and settled at LaFayette. His father, William Center, had
two brothers, names undetermined, but one was a Baptist minsiter, and one was a presiding
elder in a Methodist church.
ELI CENTER, first married Elizabeth Holcomb, the daughter of Berry Holcomb and Mary
Little. The children of Eli and Elizabeth Center were: 1. Jane Center who married
Robert Wilson; 2. Winchester Center who married Sallie Horton; 3. Lee Center, who served
in the Confederate Army but never married; 4. Mis Orpha Center, remained single; 5. Miss
Linn Center, remained single; 6. Ruth Center who married Emanuel Gerber; 7. W. W. Center
who married Molly Park; and 8. Harriet Center, who remained single.
ELI CENTER, secondly married Mrs. Nancy Hill. Their children were: 1. Augusta Center
who married E. A. McHan--he was the managing editor of the Walker County Messenger; and,
2. Lydia Center, who remained single.
ELI CENTER is listed as one of the early settlers in Walker County, Georia.
