Greetings to Everyone on this wonderful site!
I descend from Nathan Center [died 1783 SC] and Martha Taylor; his son John Center and
Julia/Juliette, it appears that John and his brother, William, removed from South Carolina
to DeKalb County, Georgia when they reached maturity; his son, Nathan Center and Mary,
last name unknown, Lithonia, GA; his son, James W. Center and Mary Ann Eddington, he was a
carpenter and they lived at Cedartown, GA, before the Civil War, he was killed at the
Battle of Devil's Den at Gettysburg--his wife and sons were on the 1880 census in
Ringold, Catoosa County, GA, after which time they relocated to Sebastian and Scott
Counties in Arkansas, James W and Mary Ann had two son, John Edwin and Thomas Jesse
Center. John Edwin Center married an Oldham and after living at Greenwood, Arkansas for a
short time, he also moved to Scott County, Arkansas near his brother Thomas Jesse
"Tom" Center and his wife.
My grandmother, Minnie Eugenie Center, is the daughter of John Edwin Center.
I have many records, and will be happy to share anything that might be useful to other
Center researchers.
Currently, my quest is the document that verifies that Nathan Center, South Carolina, who
died in 1783, served in the Civil War, as a Major, or any other rank, and with what
company.
