I am a direct descendant of Nathan Center who is said to have come from VA to SC abt.
1756. He married Martha Taylor, the daughter of John and Lucy (Burge) Taylor.
Children:
*Nathan Jr. b. 1777 d. 1850 (I call him Jr. to keep it straight), who married
Charlotte Rives, the daughter of Timothy and Priscilla (Turner) Rives.
*John b.ca 1779
*William b. ca 1781
*Elizabeth b. ca 1775
Nathan (Sr.) moved to SC abt. 1756.
Martha Taylor's family moved to SC from VA also abt. 1757. Her family was from Amelia
Co. VA.
According to "History of Richland Co. SC" by Edwin L. Green pg 175 Nathan (Sr)
is said to have served as commissary with Capt. James Taylor (army officer in charge of
supplies) during the Revolution. James was Martha's brother. DAR records show a
James Taylor Pvt. Patriot Service, SC, b. ca 1742 VA
d.. 1807 SC, wife Mary Hirons, no pension. No one apparently has proved Nathan's
service since DAR has no record of him that I can locate. That does not mean he didn't
serve, just that no one has submitted the proof/paperwork.
I descend from Nathan, Nathan Jr., Dr. James T., Glin N., James Earnest, & Bobby Joe
Center.

Currently I too am trying to confirm the "Major" status question for Nathan as
well as his parents from VA. I look forward to corresponding with all
Center/Centers/Senter, etc. surname researchers...especially those researching VA &
SC.
