Thank you for subscribing to this list ..... It was so exciting when
I
first started receiving your subscription notices and I immediately
jumped
online to the list admin's page to make sure that all the settings
and such
were setup correctly and that I had technically done what I was
supposed to
do. Well, it's been well over 24 hours now and I am still not sure!
But if
you guys get this message and can read, we are off to a great start!
:-)
There are currently six subscribers to this list plus four on the
Center
list. How fun!!
My name is Lisa Center and I am a newbie everything and this list is
also
new. I apologize for this message being a little lengthy but I
would like
to get everyone's opinion on whether or not there should be two
lists, one
for CENTER and one for CENTERS and I wanted to brief you a little
bit first
on how the two came to be in the first place.
As you know, there is a mailing list for CENTER. The CENTER list is
not
new, but there are only a few subscribers and there has not been any
postings to the list that I am aware of since I subscribed months
ago. From
my own personal research, I am finding that the two names, Center
and
Centers, are one and the same - at least in my family. For example,
my name
and my fathers name is Center but my father's brother is a Centers.
Their
father was a Center, but his family were Centers. I don't know why.
So,
anyway, one night I happened to come upon a cluster of message
boards for
Centers and was kind of surprised at how many people there were with
that
name because there are not too many Center names. So, since the
Center list
I was subscribed to at the time was all but dead, I decided what the
heck
and put in a request at Rootsweb to create a new list for Centers
which is
this list. Well, by a fluke, right after that I was browsing
through all of
the lists that were up for adoption, looking an entirely different
name, and
low and behold the Center list was up for adoption. This all
happened in
the same night. So, thinking that I could combined the two lists, I
also
put in a request to adopt the Center list. Well let that be a
lessen to
me - I was wrong.... Rootsweb absolutely refuses to delete any list
or its
GenConnect Boards once they have been created. I argued that since
the
Centers list was only a few hours old and no one knows about, it
wouldn't
hurt to delete it and just make the Center list for the Center
surname and
all of it's variants. No way, it's totally unthinkable and so that
is why
there are the two lists.
So, I would like to get everyone's opinion on what their experiences
have
been with the variations of this surname and if it would be OK if I
routed
all the subscribers from the Center list to this one and listed it
as a
mailing list for the surname CENTER/CENTERS plus the variants? I
personally
would like this list to be for Centers, Center, Senter, Senters, and
Scenter
and whatever other variations there are out there.
Again, thanks for subscribing and it's going to be fun getting to
know
everyone! To post to this list, send messages to
CENTERS-L(a)rootsweb.com.
If would like to contact me directly without posting to the list,
send
messages to
centers-admin(a)rootsweb.com.

It is recommended that you also subscribe to the CENTER mailing
list which is the primary list for the CENTER surname and variants,
including CENTERS.
