NOTE ABOUT TRANSCRIPTION PROCESSING:
------------------------------------
Two months ago we formed a tiger team to work the
backlog of census transcriptions that had built up due
to the system that we had in place. In that system one
person was responsible for all processing of submitted
transcriptions. We became a victim of our success.
The quantity of submissions was much more than we
were equipped to handle. In addition the one person
doing the processing had a combination of family
illness and personal illness with the result that for
over a month, absolutely no files were processed.
The backlog was almost 300 file submissions that
had not been processed, including some that were over
a year old. We have been working the older submissions.
We have succeed in reducing the backlog to about 100
submissions that have to be processed. As we have
worked the backlog, those transcribers who were holding
additional submissions began submitting those that were
being held. We continue to work the backlog and expect
to have all submissions online within one more month.
Our goal is that every file received will be posted
online within a week of the initial submission.
