Ode to a Volunteer
Many of you have sent files to and received letters from Priscilla Warren.
Priscilla became a volunteer with the project doing several transcriptions for her native
state of Alabama. When she was approached about taking on a job as State Census
Coordinator for Georgia she graciously accepted. As more SCC's had to leave the
project she unhesitatingly undertook those positions. Eventually she had seven very busy
states. Several are amongst the busiest states census wise in the entire project. She
would assist SCC's who needed help when she saw the need. When the National
Coordinator was ill Priscilla immediately volunteered her services in whatever capacity
she could help out.
Completed files started coming in droves, Priscilla recognized the problem,
and approached Maggie Stewart, Earnie Breeding and Kathy Grace. Not only did she point
out the problem, she organized the "Tiger Team" which was able in record time to
reduce the backlog from almost 300 files to a manageable workload. All this time she
continued doing the SCC duties and even undertook transcription of several counties. She
proofread numerous transcriptions that had errors, correcting the errors, and getting the
transcriptions online.
Priscilla did all this while being a full time employee of Georgia Natural Gas
as an account manager. Additionally Priscilla is an enthusiastic volunteer with several
orphanages in the former Soviet Union. She travels to these orphanages several times a
year. She raises funds to keep these institutions afloat.
Priscilla is one of those people who takes Lemons and makes Lemonade. She has
the God given ability to succeed at anything she sets her mind to.
Priscilla has decided to leave the Census Project for a while. We just wanted
each of you to know a little of the brightness in our lives will be shining in a different
direction for a while. Priscilla, we will miss you and hope that you will find happiness
in whatever you do. We always have a place for you with the project.
