"Big Question: Is Esther a Cecil or is Sisel not one of the myriad Cecil
variants? "
This I can answer from 20 years of Sissel research. "Maybe and sometimes."
All of the Joshua/Phillip (Protestant) line to this day from Lawrence and Scioto
Co.'s in Ohio use the Sissell spelling. Jonathan Sisil of Greene Co. Indiana I
have tentatively traced back to William of the John Baptist (Catholic) line.
Garret or Garard or Jarret Sissell of North Carolina, Kentucky, and Arkansas is an
unknown line but with the naming similarities and people they intermarried with I
suspect they are connected to the North Carolina group (Protestant). Our Sissel
line is unknown. When they say the spelling means nothing they aren't kidding.
There is a Thomas Cisil line in Wabash Co., Ill (from 1760's NY).
I read your message so many times I think I have it memorized. Of course it
is connected to your Cecil line. As we trace our lines one thing becomes clear.
They traveled with and intermarried with the same families over and over. This
could be the answer to one of our unknowns like the William Sissell of 1755 North
Carolina or Leonard Cecil of Georgia or William Sissell of 1750 Chester Co., Pa.
if we could trace this Esther. Just a generation back from Samuel & Rebecca we
have many unknowns. Do you have any other information on her? Where did her kids
say she was born on the 1880 census? Really interesting message. Thank you for
sharing. Donna

Here is a new puzzle for the crew. My ancestor Timothy Sexton was born
about 1750, possibly in Connecticut. He enlisted in the Army in 1777 at
Morristown NJ and was discharged in 1781 at Baltimore. He married 18 August
1782 in York District SC Esther Sisel (Cecil, Cissel ?). She was born ca 1755
and died in Scott Co TN 23 Jan 1850. Timothy and Esther were in York District
in 1790 (Census). By 1800 they may have been in Elbert Co GA. They arrived in
Campbell CO TN sometime before 18 May 1808. They moved to Morgan County along
Brimstone Creek (later Scott Co) in 1819. Esther may have been related to a
John Gee in SC.
Big Question: Is Esther a Cecil or is Sisel not one of the myriad Cecil
variants? and has anyone found her before in the context of her parents,
siblings, etc.? My descent from this couple is through their eldest son
Timothy Sexton Jr m Nancy (Ellis) then Robert (Robbin) Sexton m Salina Keeton,
then Artema Sexton m Riley Cecil, then Clifford Cecil & Elizabeth Keeton,
then Harrison Leonard Cecil m Clara Mae Phillips, then Mary Helen Cecil m
Walter B. Morrow, then me.
