I had contacted the BYU group several months ago to see if their study
could help with my efforts in trying to determine the ancestry of the John
Cecil (Cissell) who came to SMC in 1658. Unfortunately, it appears that
the actual tests and results from any DNA we might provide would not be
available directly to us. I think they may eventually provide some
estimates of relatedness between selected individuals or groups, but it
seemed that the DNA equivalent of "primary records" would not be available
in the near future.
For my Cissell work, I am in the middle of trying to gather up a small set
of lab equipment to test for a few DNA markers on the Y-Chromosome.
These
are passed from father to son and so allow for back tracking to previous
generations. If there are any Cissells decended along the male lines from
the sons of the 1658 John Cissell, I would like to hear from them.
