Jourdan book "Early Families of Southern Maryland", Volume l has 70 some
pages on the Cecils, including all that is known about William.
Elise Jourdan has a great book, and much description about William Cecil.
Alas, I think that she throws in a lot of judgment about him that isn't
necessarily justified. The age and place in which he lived don't exactly concur
with her opinions on William's personality as a perjurer (he wasn't if you look
at all of the testimony involved), and all around bad father for giving up
his kids. Some of the early Cecil researchers were very negative about
William...I wonder if we are all just frustrated because he doesn't have a clear
line to Europe!
I have corresponded with Elise---and admire her work enormously. Her facts
are generally impeccable.
