Does anyone else have:
In JOHN GRAHAM OF VIRGINIA by Jillson, page 550, and in WHITTEN AND
ALLIED FAMILIES by Alexander and Whitten, page 493-499 it is stated that
Elizabeth was adopted by her father's brother John. This came from
someone I was corresponding with, and merged Family Tree Maker files.
This could be the reason for the confusion, and both could have been
fathers to her.

I don't have this text, but the conclusion seems
reasonable! We do have
evidence that Phillip Cecil had a daughter named Elizabeth, probably born
about 1720. Phillip died in 1733, leaving only debts. It would make sense
that John and Elizabeth (Sollars) Cecil might have "adopted" their
niece...especially if they had no daughters of their own. Pending further
info, this is my approach.
Thanks to all involved in sending us this info, by the way. I enjoy reading
these old stories! Life was rough...I've always been impressed that Samuel
Cecil's wife Rebecca lived to be 94!!! Til later, Penny
