Leo
if I sent the notes to you, there should have been the remarks that the lineal tie in to
the family of Lord Burghley is still speculative-we do know that Sir Robert Cecil's
son Thomas and his family were involved in the 2nd VA company and the son Edward was often
in the colonies, along with a few others. We do know that some of the Cecil's were
Catholic in this era-and we do know that Burke's peerage is not great on some second
marriages, nor all the descendents of the first Lord Burghley. On top of that, there were
two groups of Cecil (Cissell)'s that came into colonial Maryland, one Anglican and one
Catholic and we do not have the roots of both sets of immigrants sorted out to our total
satisfaction.
Part of the information on the original line came from Sir David Cecil's book
"The Cecil's of Hatfield House, and some from several longtime Cecil researchers
on my list. Somehow the documentation that they have is in a separate file and I do not
yet have the database documented. In my spare time.

Dear Don Alexander,
Many thanks for all this information. Sadly, Burke's
Peerage only goes back to the parents of Lord Burghley.
Where does this long lineage come from?
Now a bit of criticism, I do not subscribe to the Cecil
group and so I don't know this, but you tell that the
American Cecils are descended from the first marriage
of Lord Burghley. I had only a quick look in Burke's
but could not find any reference.
Another criticism, you say Burghley's eldest daughter
married Edward Unknown?! He is none else than Edward de
Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, a statesman and poet and,
according to some, possibly William Shakespeare. I don't
believe the latter, but others have claimed this.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Leo van de Pas
P.S. I only send this to you.
