I would really like to figure out the John Cissell's of St. Mary's
County, Maryland. Using Donnelly, Jourdan and Lampkin we have 3
different versions of many lines. For instance, the parents of John
married to Susannah Thompson who died cir 1835 Nelson Co., Ky is given
as John and Henrietta by Lampkin. Jourdan does not specify which John
and Susannah just that they have a daughter named Mary and she is the
Susannah in Richard Thompson's will-parents are listed as Arthur and
Mary. So we have the same Susannah Thompson (which one?) wife of John
Cissell as the d-in-law of John and Henrietta and of Arthur. Knowing
the John Cissell who died cir. 1785 in St. Mary Co. died before Richard
Thompson limits the field a bit as he could not have administered on the
estate of Richard Thompson. We really seem to have a problem in these
records. Looking at much of the work which has been done one thing has
not been done. Very little has been done to trace the lines back to St.
Mary's County. Much of the work has been in the opposite direction. I
really don't want to get anyone angry or upset but we could all work
together on tracing many of these unknown lines back to Maryland-I will
be posting stuff from time to time and if you know I am way off
base-please post the correction and help out. We did this with
Elizabeth dau. of Phillip or John and really made some progress.
Someday I would like to know the parentage of our John Baptist Sissel
probably born Maryland. Getting these unknown or incorrectly placed John
Cecil/Cissell/Sissel's straightened out seems like the only way. When
you trace going backward often you can pick up the female siblings which
might help us straighten out these lines in Maryland. Again, please
don't get "mad"-get- "even" and post the correct info. with
sources.
Any feedback on this? Donna
