History of Sullivan County, Indiana 1909
James R. Brown, lawyer and abstractor, practicing at Sullivan, is a native
of Wabash county, Illinois, born September 14, 1872, son of John and Eliza
(Cisel) Brown. The father was born in 1832 and died in November 1872. The
grandfather, James Brown, a native of England, born about 1795, came to the
United States in 1820, locating in Virginia. He removed to Illinois and
there spent the remainder of his days. Grandfather Thomas Cisel was born in
Ohio in 1807, and went to Illinois on a raft, run down the Wabash river, in
1814. The family settled at a point within Wabash county. He was of English
descent, and always followed farming for his livelihood. The Cisels were all
radical Democrats, while the Browns were Republican in their political
views.
(more follows just on the Brown family.)

4. FEMALE2 CISAL (THOMAS BENTON1)18. She married ISAAC SMITH.
Notes for FEMALE CISAL:
The only Isaac Smith/Cisal marriage I can find in Ohio is this one:
Elizabeth Cissel married Isaac B. Smith 5 Feb. 1818 Butler County, Ohio
Could Isaac and Elizabeth have gone to Illinois and returned to Ohio? Not
likely but is this the same Elizabeth Cissell Smith? There was another Isaac
Smith family so I really do not know about this.
1820 Butler Co. Ohio
Isaac Smith 1 m und 10, 1 m 16-26, 1 f und 10, 1 f 16-26
I think in spite of a county history saying 1814 that Thos. went to Illinois
after 1820 because the earliest record I can find is 1823 petition. They are
not on the 1820 Ill. census index.
