This is an area that has not been completely solved at this end.
Thank You for your assistance here. Now there are some areas that
perhaps my data could help in which will present below.
The majority of this group is very very messy and hard to deal with so
of course have had tendencies to avoid. Paul
=============================================
First let me thank you for your patience on this and the fact that there
was a mistake in my data on Elizabeth Carberry md to James French. (this I
have corrected)to show Elizabeth Meeken. Paul
--------------------------
This on Thomas Green s/o Thomas Green and Margaret Webb of Bobbing Manor, Eng.
--------
Thomas Green, of Bobbing Manor, one of the original settlers of Maryland,
came to America on the Ark and the Dove in 1634. His house was located in
St. Mary's County in 1639.
He was also the second Colonial Governor of Maryland between 1647-1649. He
received over 14,000 acres in land patents. He was a member of the privvy
council, justice of the provincial court, and acting governor for William
Stone. Thomas was married two times:[ now DISPUTED: Elizabeth Calvert,
sister of Leonard Calvert, 1st Colonial Governor of Maryland;] 1. Ann
Gerrard widow of ___ Cox, sister of Thomas Gerrard; and 2. Winefred
widow of ___ Seybourne.
==============
Mistress Winifred Seybourne emigrated to Maryland in 1638 " who by her
title indicated gentle birth and likewise one who had arrived to the age of
discretion to be recognized as a feme sole in matter of ethics and
business." p. 215, ...Maryland Palatinate On 30 July 1638 Lord Baltimore
personally issued instructions for a warrant of 100 acres for Mistress
Winifred Seyborne [Seaborne] for transporting herself in 1638 and at the
same time a warrant of 100 acres for MistressTroughan.

Robert Greene and Francis Greene are overseers in will Dennis Husculaw, St.
Mary's County, MD, 1687.

This on John Shircliff b. 1618 died 26 March 1663 St. Mary's, MD
----------------
Either John SHIRCLIFF's mother was a Spalding or Thomas Spalding's mother
was a SHIRCLIFF as in Maryland Heraldic Families, Series II p. 152 when
SHIRCLIFF died about 1663 there were 50 acres of land left to his "cousin"
Thomas Spalding of McIntosh Creek, 1657 who was the progenitor of the
Spaldings in America.
Note: Information indicates this Thomas SPALDING was servant of
John SHIRCLIFF and in his will called him his "cusin".
Both John and Thomas were transported to MD by a Mrs. THROUGHTON.
--------------------
Will of John SHIRCLIFF is in Liber 7, folio 381 of MD wills Vol II, p. 138
============
Shircliff surname is also rendered Shercliff, Shercliffe, Sheercliffe,
Shurtleff, and more.
John Shircliff was transported on the Province in 1638. [ Early Settlers...
p. 414.] He arrived just six years after the colonists arrived on the Ark
and the Dove.
A John Shertcliffe immigrated in 1646. Anne, dau., of John Shertcliffe,
was transported in 1657, with her sister Mary [ per. Early Settlers of
Maryland, Skordas.]
Maryland Heraldic Families, Series II p. 152: Either Thomas Spalding's
mother was a Shircliffe, or John Shircliffe's was a Spalding; Shircliffe d.
about 1663, devising 50 acres of land to his cousin, Thomas Spalding.
[Thomas Spalding of McIntosh Creek, 1657, was the progenitor of the
Spaldings in America.]
Thomas Spalding [Spaulding] transported 1657, service 1667. WFT, Vol. 1, #
4639, about Thomas Spalding: married Catherine Hall in 1673; issue: Thomas,
Jr,b.. 1667; John, b. 1675; William b. 1678, Peter, b. 1685; Edward b. 1691.
======================================
This on Leonard Calvert s/o John Calvert b. 1525 Bolton, Yorkshire and
possibly Dorothy Leonard and they were possibly md 1575 Hrstmncauxcastle,
Sussex, England.
---------------
According to Descendants of Virginia Calverts:
...Leonard, son of John and Margerie Calvert. This Leonard Calvert, father
of George, was born about 1550 (Estimated). He was a country gentleman,
apparently in easy circumstances, who owned land and raised cattle. He
married about 1575 (estimated) Grace (or Alicia) Crossland, daughter of
Thomas and Joanna (Hawksworth) Crossland of Crossland Hill, Yorkshire. (See
Foster's Visitations of Yorkshire) and descended from Roger de Crossland,
of the time of Henry III.
------------------------------------------
This on Arthur Thompson and Susanna Carberry whose dau Mildred Thompson
md William 'Spinke' Shircliff and they had 9 children.
- ------------------------------
Arthur Thompson, who resided on St. Clement's Bay in St. Mary's County, was
probably born in England about 1635, and probably the Arthur who emigrated
in 1680, obtained a land patent for 150 A. on 12 May 1681, and 200 A. on
26 January 1683, and for 200 A. on 7 May 1683. This land called,
"Hampstead," "Highgate," and "St. Oswald," was located in
St. Mary's
County, Maryland. "Settlers of Maryland 1679-1700," by Peter Wilson
Coldham, Genealogical Pub. Co., 1995.
Also in 1684 a George Thompson, gent., of St. Mary's County obtained many
land grants in Charles, Baltimore and St. Mary's counties [totalling about
4500 A.]
-----------------------------------------------------
On Mary 'Spinke' Shircliff
-----------------
Mary's birth date causes doubt: in 1712 she gives a deposition that she is
age 65 (or born in 1647). However, her sister Ann, the youngest daughter,
was married to William Evans in 1651. Ann would have to have been born
about 1635. In that case Mary would have been born before 1635.
----------------------------------------------
This Senior Cissell shows up in LDS lib. IGI and is thought to be as shown
in many references. Seems since her age appears to be the eldest of the
two wifes would explain notation found of "Senior" Mary Cecil?
---------------------------------------
Comment about James Cissell s/o Ann Carberry and Thomas Cissell is
that if he was born during time range stated he was as young as 14 when he
had his child having died before 1724 so feel this is ifffy. Very young for
even those days but..........well.........possible.
--------------------------------------
This may or may not be news to most of you but I am a long way from having
all correct at this time. Till Later, Paul

Mary French who married Robert Thompson 2nd married Thomas Cissell (and 3rd
Charles Daft.) This Mary French, b c 1670, and died 21 Aug 1724, was the
daughter of the immigrant James French of Galway, Ireland French's. (In
1671, at the age of 21, James French had his passage from Galway, Ireland,
where his French family was much distinguished, long the Mayors of Galway.
They originated with a Norman family and immigrated to Ireland before 1400
as per Joseph French of Louisville as per letter to Paula Russell,
prussell(a)centuryinter.net.) He married Elizabeth Meekin, d/of William
Meekin and Elizabeth Beard. I do not show an Elizabeth Carberry married to
a James French. Mary was a common name for the Frech family. Mary had 2
brothers, Martin and Francis. I do not have all of their children, but one
of them probably would have named a son James after their father.

There are a couple of things here that are puzzling.
In one place you state Mary French daughter of James French and Elizabeth
Meekin(s) while in another you have Thomas Cissell who md Mary French widow
of Robert Thompson.
-------------
Elizabeth Carberry was mother and James French father is what I have of
Mary French.
===============
Meekin(s) is very common and strong family name in Cecil Co., MD for long
time
however.

Boy am I confused or what? Paul

Now if you want a picture for your scrapbooks of Basil Hayden (the leader of
Roman Catholics from MD to KY and 1st Catholic Church in KY built on his
land)
Picture is on "Old Grand-dad" whiskey bottle.
