A David Buchanan is listed in Muncie, Delaware
County, Indiana on the
1860 Indiana census. A daughter of his, India or
Indiana, was born
June 25, 1864.
Her death certificate lists David as her father. He
was born in
Ohio. Her mother was Susan/Susana Lemon/Lennon.
She also was born
in Ohio.
India Buchanan married Charles William Cecil in
1887. They lived in
or near Muncie, Indiana all their life.
The parents of CW Cecil were Samuel M. Cecil, b. 30
Oct 1846 and
Amelia Bloom, b. 31 Dec 1841. Samuel's father was
Stewart Cecil. I
don't have a reliable name for his mother.
Amelia Bloom's parents--Aaron Bloom, b. 1815? place
unknown, Martha
Ann Polk, b. 1821 place unknown. The Polks and the
Cecils came out
of Virginia. I haven't been able to trace their
whereabouts between
Virginia and Ohio and Indiana.
Stewart Cecil apparently the son of William Cecil
(~1793~1825), who was born in Montgomery Co.,in what
is now Pulaski Co. in present SW Virginia. His family
emigrated to Shelby Co., OH c.1814. This branch of
the Cecils had been in that area since Samuel W. Cecil
(1718-86) moved down the Valley of Virginia with the
Wittens in c.1767 from Prince George's Co., MD.
You may wish to review some of the stories online in
the excellent New River Notes website at

There are some amazing stories of how these anscestors
survived great trials and tribulations on what was the
Virginia frontier before the Ohio Valley opened up for
settlement.

Do these folks sound familiar to anyone?
