In an illiterate era it is possible to see the same person spell their own
name several different ways in the same document, let alone over a life
time.
From your research, Lynn, you believe that you show that Elise Greenup
Jordan had Susannah Thompson wrongly marrying the father, rather than the
son?

Subject: Re: CISSELL, John m Susannah Thompson
Well, here's perfect example of how a name can be changed here and there!
My
GGG-Grandmother, Mary Jane Cissell, is listed as Cecil on this document that
I
have. But, I have seen it in her own handwriting as Cissell. Anyway, I
have
Susannah Thompson married at St. Mary's Co. to John Cissell, b. Oct.15,
1757,
which makes her about 22, and makes John about 25 at the time they wed (Land
Record, Annapolis, Lib. 29, p. 119, Mar. 6, 1822; St. Andrew's Ch. Record,
p.
36; Will of Richard Thompson). And, by the way, their son was John CECIL,
not
CISSELL. Now, his father, John Cissell, m. Henrietta __?__ at St. Andrews
Ch., SMC, bef. 1793 (St. Andrew's Church Register, p. 36 at Md. Historical
Library; Will of John Cissell). Now this John Cissell was the son of Arthur
Cissell, will prob.1737, and Mary (Jane?) Doyne, said to be the daughter of
Ethelbert Doyne and Jane Sanders ( Will of Arthur Cissell, Annapolis, Lib.
27,
F. 355, prob. Nov. 5, 1737).
