Further, I'd love to have some explanation of the differentiation between
the two.
- Which was the original spelling?
- When did the name change? Can it be traced to a particluar ancestor?
- Are the name interchangeable for some generations?
- What is the current preference? I notice some correspondents seem to
use only Cissel.

I think it could be a valuable start to consider IF Cecil is the same

as Cissell, or did Cecils (or some branch or branches of the Cecils) start
using Cissell at some point.
For research purposes, I generally look for both and consider them the same
because they seem interchangeable.
I do think, however, that the original Cecils who came from Europe (where?)
were Cecils, not Cissells.
