Subject: Re: Jacob Vertrees
Hello, me again and I am sorry to say no luck. I can find only 2
connections and neither seems to fit. Margaret Geoghegan married John
Vertrees 29 Oct. 1823 in Hardin co. He must die and she marries George
French 30 Apr. 1827 in Hardin Co. Margaret Geoghegan's sister was Rebecca
Geoghegan who married Charles Cissell in 1828 in Hardin co. Ky.(Dau.'s of
Denton Geoghegan)
There was a Louisa B.(Dimmit?) Vontress who married Benjamin P. Cissell on
30 Oct. 1848 in Warren Co.Ky from what I can tell the name seems to be Van
Tress or VonTress and one source says her parents were Samuel and Maria
Hughes VanTress who married Dec. 30, 1818 in Wash. Co.
Ky. The name does not seem to be Vertrees but I am not familiar with
your variant spellings. I will send you the particulars I have in
another e-mail so possibly you could forward it to any other Vertrees
researchers you may know. Thankyou so much. I hope we can figure this
out and I think the answer may lie in guardianship records. As you read
the will you will see he says "called" Louisa Cecil etc. before each of
his children. Evidently Susan Cecil is caring for his 3 children or
grandchildren but why would he call grandchildren son and daughter? If
I could just figure out who Susan is the widow of cuz he calls her the
widow Cecil and then refers to her other children in the will as her
children and leaves them a legacy. I wonder if Susan is the wife of a
dead son who remarried a Cecil?? but that doesnot make sense cuz the
children are not in order of birth on census. Maybe some of this
rambling will ring a bell with you and you will be able to figure it
out. Donna
