I have several copies of the "The Cecils of Hatfield House" in my library.
A used copy of this book is fairly easy to find. Go to one of the online
book
sellers such as
www.Amazon.com or
www.bn.com and search for the book.
Generally they can have a used copy of this book to you in 4-6 weeks.
I also have a book "The House of Cecil" that documents the existence of
pedigree charts
(at Hatfield House) that go back fifteen generations from David Cyssell to
Robert Sytsylt.
However, the author states the following: "Numerous scraps of pedigrees and
genealogical
notes in Burghley's handwriting exist at Hatfield, which, if they prove
nothing else, show at
least the pedigree which was finally accepted was the outcome of a dozen
other versions
which did not work out satisfactorily."
Being a collector of Cecil books and manuscripts, I would be very interested
in the work
you cited as "ancient manuscript" published in 1563 by Lloyd and republished
in 1812.
Do you what is the title this manuscript was published under? Or at least
the name of an
author(s) for this work? What publishing house republished the work in
1812?
Thanks
Dwayne Cecil

Subject: Information!
Okay, after begging my great-aunt to release what she had of our
family
history, I finally have something! Since I have been bugging everyone on
this list for information, I thought I'd offer to share what I have now.
There are several handwritten charts, and information about the
Cecil/Cissell line going back to when the name was originally Sitsylt.
The
Coat of Arms is also included.
Please let me know if you would like me to mail you copies of anything.
The
information includes:
John Cissell 1658 (to Md from Wales), wife Mary. Children John, William,
Thomas, Richard, Robert, Edward, James.
If you trace my line, starting with my father, it looks like this -
Fred J. Cecil, Jr., s/o Fred J. Cecil Sr., s/o Curtis Cecil, s/o Charles
Napoleon Cissell, s/o Linus Cissell, s/o Joseph Cissell, s/o Ignatius
Cissell Sr., s/o James Cissell, s/o John Cissell.
Works cited include "Colonial Settler" by Mary Louise Donnelly; "A
Centenary
of Catholicity in Kentucky, 1884" by Webb; "Dictionary of
Names of the
United Kingdom"; "The Cecils of Hatfield House" and an ancient manuscript
published in 1563 by Lloyd and republished in 1812.
If ANYONE knows how I could get copies of these works, please let me know.
Also, not that I have been able to be more specific about my family line,
if
anyone has ANY information they could share with me I would really
appreciate it.
Thanks!!
