IOWA CITY, Iowa - Shirley Lee Cecil, 83, formerly of Muscatine, died Tuesday September 14,
2004, at Windmill Manor, Coralville.
Service will be at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Reverend Paul Rekward
officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be
made to the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Shirley was born September 15, 1920, in Columbus City, the daughter of Earnest and Geneva
McRoberts. Her early childhood was spent in Wellman, Lone Tree and Columbus Junction.
Shirley married Lloyd Charles Cecil on November 8, 1945, in Hannibal, Missouri. She and
her husband resided in San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Newport and Portsmouth Rhode
Island before settling in Muscatine. She resided in Muscatine for 43 years.
She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Muscatine Masquers, and the
Lady Elks. She enjoyed playing bridge, loved dogs and cats, and was loyal fan of the
University of Iowa Hawkeyes. She also sang in the church choir and performed in many
productions of the Muscatine Masquers.
She was a mother and homemaker and worked part-time as a cosmetic sales person for Von
Maur department store in Muscatine and also sold Avon.
She is survived by three daughters, Penny LeMasurier of New Fairfield, CT, Patti Cecil of
Sarasota, FL, and Pam Cecil of New York, N.Y.; one granddaughter, three grandsons; and one
sister-in-law, Frances McRoberts of Muscatine.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, one brother, Patrick McRoberts, and one
grandson, Michael LeMasurier.
